The importance of mental symptoms has been very well recognised in the homoeopathic treatment of chronic diseases. In taking the case history every care is taken to note the mental symptoms of the patient and in the preparation of prescription utmost importance is given to the mental symptoms.Dr. M.L. Sehgal in his Revolutionised Homoeopathy takes into account only the mental symptoms of the patient to the exclusion of all physical symptoms in the preparation of homoeopathic prescription. It is common knowledge that some persons are so sensitive to pain that they would raise great hue and cry even with the prick of a thorn, while some persons would undergo the worst of physical torture without the least murmur. This shows that there is no relation between the physical disease and the mental state of a person. It is not the ailment which matters, it is the feeling of the ailment which is important, and the feeling of trouble emanates from the brain. It is therefore necessary to remove the feeling of ailment from the brain, if the patient is to be cured. For proper treatment of a patient, the mental state of the person has to be rectified. A Japanese doctor successfully treated many cases of cancer by simply convincing the patient that he was not suffering from cancer. One of his cases was reported thus: A patient whose swelling on the throat was diagnosed as cancerous after biopsy of a tissue and was given an appointment for operation on a certain date went to see this doctor. “What”? said this doctor,”who told you this is cancerous”? He felt the swelling with his hand and proclaimed that it was only an eruption which would suppurate and open in a couple of days and after discharging the pus, the swelling would subside. Such was the magic of the doctor’s confident tone that the patient was convinced that he had no cancer and the previous diagnosis of the experts was wrong. True, in a couple of days the suppurated eruption opened up, and the pus discharged. The patient was cured.According to this Japanese doctor, you have to remove the feeling of sickness from the mind of the patient and the physical symptoms of his disease would automatically disappear. Very often we come across patients who have heart trouble due to mental causes. Originally the trouble started with some gastric trouble. The flatulence with an upward pressure caused some pressure in the left chest. The patient was rushed to the nearest heart specialist. The E.C.G. was clear but the specialist advised the patient to come for another E.C.G test after a week, and meanwhile to take care. This advice to take precautions against heart trouble and E.C.G tests installs in the mind of the patient a doubt and fear that he has some heart trouble. In time this apprehension takes the form of certainty and the person becomes a heart patient.*21\308\8*
Negative WHITE CHESTNUT is not limited to uncontrolled repetitive thoughts only. It encompasses repetitive physical action also, provided the same action is repeated the same way in the same sequence.
Thus persistent yawning, persistent eructations, winking of eyes, persistent itching etc all call for WHITE CHESTNUT remedy.
Doctor Krishnamoorty in his lectures detailed the following conditions, calling for White Chestnut Remedy.
(1) When the patient loses his mental balance and starts mental arguments with himself and repeats the same thing over and over again.
(2) When the same thought keeps on churning in the mind all the time or repeats in the mind again and again.
(3) Any physical action which has become a chronic vice due to persistent repetition as jerking the head in a particular way again and again.
(4) Start counting from 1 to 100 and go on repeating it.

Double bonds contain unpaired electrons, and polyunsaturated fats contain the most double bonds. This means they make the oil highly unstable whereby it can easily become rancid or oxidized. Polyunsaturated fats easily react with oxygen, light, water and various molecules in the body. If they become oxidized, such as through heating and exposure to oxygen (such as in processing and frying), polyunsaturated fats act as free radicals in the body. They can cause a great deal of harm in our bodies by damaging cell membranes and DNA. Damage to DNA may promote the development of cancer; free radical damage to our skin promotes wrinkles, and damage to blood vessels can promote the development of atherosclerosis. For this reason polyunsaturated fats should never be used for cooking; yet these are precisely the oils sold in the supermarket specifically labeled for cooking!
All fats and oils in nature contain a combination of saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids. Animal fats like butter, cream and tallow contain mainly saturated fatty acids and plant fats contain mainly monounsaturated fatty acids, or polyunsaturated fatty acids. In their natural state, that is, when found in raw nuts and seeds, polyunsaturated fats are very healthy. However, when turned into vegetable oil via processing, polyunsaturated fats can do more harm than good.
Various health authorities claim that the typical Western diet is too high in omega 6 fats (present in most vegetable oils) and too low in omega 3 fats (present in fish, flaxseeds and walnuts). This imbalance may promote inflammation, contribute to weight gain, suppress the immune system and promote depression.

After recovery, if you replace the former deficient diet by one made up of wholefoods, you will be able to manage without having to take any more concentrated vitamin products. However, if you continue to follow the denatured diet of the majority of people today, one including white flour and refined sugar, you will need to supplement it with vitamin preparations. Only in this way will it be possible to avoid a relapse. For this purpose, wheat germ oil is strongly indicated.
A. Vogel’s wheat germ oil is a 100 per cent Swiss product and has the advantage of being cold-pressed in modern oil presses. That is why its content of the two main components – vitamin E and polyunsaturated fatty acids – is so high. According to absolutely reliable and objective analysis, it meets with the highest demands of both doctors and consumers.

Revulsion by Means of Stimulation (Irritation) Therapies It is the Chinese who seem to have a great deal of experience in the field of stimulation (irritation) therapy. On my visits to the Far East I was able to witness their mastery of this kind of therapy. I even watched them treat and cure gangrene by means of it. There was an old monk in a Buddhist monastery who gave this kind of treatment. One European patient told me in confidence about the excellent result in his own case.

In the past, the consequences of vitamin deficiencies through the winter months and into the spring used to be much more drastic than they are today. The problem was little understood and therefore left without any real solution. People in remote areas often suffered greatly during these months because of an acute lack of food rich in vitamins. Many old people would die in the winter or spring because their strength was at an all-time low for this very reason.
Even today at this time of the year there is a general susceptibility to colds, bronchial catarrh and infectious conditions of the mucous membranes; these are always a result of a deficiency of vitamin A and other substances. By taking food rich in vitamin A you can, as a rule, avoid inflammation of the eyes, eyelids and cornea, and the nuisance known as ‘night-blindness’. A lack of vitamin A in the body is responsible for the stubborn failure of wounds to heal properly.
It is good to know that the varieties of pepper, as well as tomatoes, contain plenty of vitamin A; unfortunately, however, in winter they are not always widely available or are relatively expensive. It is therefore more than welcome that carrots are usually on the market – and somewhat cheaper. Their vitamin A content is, of course, well known. So make it a point to eat fresh carrot salad every day, or to drink fresh carrot juice. Commercially prepared carrot juice with lactic acid is also recommended, and is appreciated by those who have little time to prepare the juice themselves. Health food stores stock concentrated carrot juice, such as Bioca-rottin. This is a good supplement to overcome vitamin deficiency. A word of caution is needed, however, for people who suffer from high blood pressure; try to eat more salads rather than depending on juices alone, since the regular intake of carrot juice can raise the blood pressure.

In Paracelsus’ time, merchants brought home a sort of wood that was said to contain a medicinal resin. This wood was extraordinary because it sank in water, obviously being heavier than water, and this made it different from any other wood known at the time. It was found in the West Indies and South America and, when heated, a resin flowed from it that became a remedy for consumption.
Today, Guaiacum lx is one of the best medicines for pharyngitis. Five drops on a little sugar, taken every one or two hours, will almost certainly stop the symptoms in a short time. In fact, after two or three doses the patient will notice that the soreness has already begun to ease. Guaiacum acts as a specific in such cases, and bad-smelling sputum or perspiration is usually a sure indication for its use, at a medium potency, three times a day. Stabbing, tearing pains in the joints, with gouty deposits in them, have also been relieved by means of this remedy. Guaiacum is therefore an important ingredient in several ointments and embrocations. Used together with Lachesis, Guaiacum will bring quick relief for those who suffer from tonsillitis.

It is interesting to note that wherever there are dangers to our health nature provides a local means of resistance or remedy. Papaya thrives in hot and humid tropical regions. I came across some marvellous specimens in Lagunas, where the trees grew to about 3-4 m (about 10-13 feet), the trunk to a diameter of about 20—25 cm (8-10 inches), bearing 20—25 fruits, which hang on the trunk between the axils of the large leaves. The ripe yellow fruits hang more towards the bottom of the tree; further up they are still green and unripe. They look like melons, are hollow inside and full of small, black, moist, round seeds. The active substance of papaya is to be found mainly in the unripe fruits and in the skin of the ripe ones, but this skin is usually peeled off and thrown away. The fruit pulp is yellow or pinkish, with an unusual taste, which it may take a while to become accustomed to.
As I suggested above, the fruit aids the digestion, so make it a habit to eat a slice after meals if you are visiting the tropics. The strong taste is less noticeable when papaya is mixed in a fruit salad together with pineapple, bananas and mangoes. It also helps to add a little lemon juice. Incidentally, papaya and pineapple mixed together in a blender make a tasty and refreshing drink.
